He has asserted his clean record concerning the indictments

Ex- FBI head James Comey has entered an innocent plea to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and impeding a legislative process.

His lawyer entered the response acting as his counsel in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.

Patrick Fitzgerald stated he would attempt to have the proceedings thrown out for several factors including that his the accused, a detractor of Donald Trump, was being targeted.

Mr Comey was formally accused shortly after Trump pushed his attorney general to move forward against him.

Court Developments

During the hearing on Wednesday, his attorney the legal representative advised the judge they aimed to file multiple petitions to dismiss the legal matter before a legal hearing, claiming the legal action was vindictive and that a US attorney was wrongfully designated to handle the proceedings.

Mr Comey's legal matter was originally managed by Erik Siebert, who left his position under influence from the former president after his probe into another political adversary - NY AG Letitia James - failed to file indictments.

Judicial Environment

James Comey came across in positive mood as he came into the legal venue on Wednesday, speaking with his attorneys and being lighthearted. He was accompanied by his partner, Mrs Failor and offspring Maureen, a government attorney who the Trump administration recently fired.

Upon hearing to the magistrate state his constitutional guarantees and the dual charges against him in legal proceedings on Wednesday, James Comey was questioned if he grasped the allegations.

"Yes your honour. Appreciate it," he informed the proceedings.

Previous Events

The former director was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2013-2017 and was terminated about four months into Donald Trump's first term as national leader. At the time, Mr Comey was directing an examination into Russian election interference and whether there were any relationships between Russia and Trump's campaign.

During his tenure, Mr Comey triggered a negative reaction from liberal politicians when he stated just days before the 2016 presidential election that he was investigating political contender the candidate's use of a non-governmental email account. Indictments against Hillary Clinton were never brought, leading to negative feedback from Republicans as well.

Current Allegations

Prosecutors claim James Comey provided false information to US lawmakers during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being examined about both the email probe as well as the election interference investigation. They claim he provided false information to the Senate by saying he had not approved a person at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to leak to news outlets details about the government examinations.

Legal representatives also accuse the defendant of "improperly attempting to influence, hinder and delay" the panel by giving misleading testimony to it.

Public Statements

Via social media the former director posted to his Instagram after he was charged, he said he was wrongly accused and charged the former president of conducting himself like a "tyrant".

"Our household have known for considerable time that there are ramifications to opposing the former president," he commented. "We will not live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he added. "Thus initiate a court case."

The accusations against the former director emerged after the former president shared on digital channels calling for his top legal official, the attorney general, prosecute Mr Comey and others.
